Chess legend Anand steps in as FIDE interim president after EU sanctions sideline Dvorkovich

FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich voluntarily stepped aside after being sanctioned by the European Union over Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Dvorkovich called the sanctions 'unlawful and unfair' and said he would challenge them legally.

Deputy President Viswanathan Anand will serve as interim president under Article 19.2 of the FIDE Charter.

India named its squads for the FIDE Chess Olympiad, with D Gukesh and Koneru Humpy leading the teams.
