Tamil Nadu govt explores adding chicken biryani to school meals

Teachers' unions in Tamil Nadu have proposed serving chicken biryani once a week in government school mid-day meals ahead of the state budget on August 5.

School Education Minister A Rajmohan confirmed the proposal is being examined but no final decision has been made yet.

The proposal is part of broader demands for more nutritious and varied menus, including better-quality rice.

Unions also want to extend meal coverage to students in Classes 11 and 12 and permanent jobs for meal workers.

Rajmohan noted that earlier chief ministers like Kamaraj, Karunanidhi, MGR, and Jayalalithaa added to the school meal programme, and he aims to continue that legacy.
