'We literally have the paper': US says India trade deal could be signed in months
A senior US official said the India-US trade deal text is effectively finalized and could be signed within three to four months.
The remaining delay is due to ongoing US Section 301 trade investigations, not bilateral disagreements between Washington and New Delhi.
One of the Section 301 probes, covering about 60 countries, is expected to conclude this week or next, enabling progress on the deal.
The agreement aims to expand market access, lower trade barriers, and deepen economic ties between India and the US.
Separately, US President Donald Trump announced that generic medicines imported into the US will remain tariff-exempt for two years, after which tariffs could rise to 200%.
