PM Modi says ties will deepen as India-UK free trade pact comes into force

India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) and social security agreement came into force on July 16, 2026.
PM Modi said CETA provides zero-duty market access for nearly 99% of India’s exports, covering almost 100% of trade value.
The trade pact aims to benefit farmers, MSMEs, and skilled professionals by deepening cooperation in technology, professional services, and innovation.
The social security agreement supports Indian professionals working temporarily in the UK and strengthens Indian enterprise competitiveness.
Commerce minister Piyush Goyal described CETA as a defining milestone in India-UK ties.
