Army deployed for rescue ops as Gujarat continues to receive heavy rain

The Indian Army deployed relief and rescue columns, including engineer and medical teams, in Valsad, Navsari, Silvassa and Ahmedabad.

Umergam in Gujarat's Valsad district recorded 1,064 mm of rain in 24 hours, the third-highest ever in India, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Heavy rainfall forced the evacuation of 38,653 people across the state, with 12,554 shifted and 1,826 rescued in Valsad.

Valsad's seasonal rainfall reached 2,149 mm (90.25% of average) by Friday morning; Navsari received 1,788 mm (94.09% of average).

Power supply was affected in 4,095 villages; as of Friday 10am, 333 villages and 707 feeders remained to be restored.
