1,200 rescued from Umargam as flood situation worsens in south Gujarat

Around 1,200 people were rescued from Umargam in Valsad district after 43 inches of rainfall in 28 hours.
The Centre deployed Army personnel and additional NDRF teams for rescue operations.
Umargam received the highest rainfall, while Kaprada and Vapi also saw heavy showers.
In Surat city, 1,500 people were shifted to safer places; 200 stranded in 11 villages in Navsari were rescued after Kaveri River flooding.
Chief minister Bhupendra Patel reviewed the situation at SEOC in Gandhinagar; PM Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah assured full support.
