‘Once I'd spoken to Stephen about it’: Joe Root reveals how the Fleming conversation convinced him about England role

Joe Root said a conversation with Stephen Fleming convinced him about returning as England captain.

Root is captaining England for the second time after Ben Stokes was removed following a nightclub brawl incident.

England sacked Brendon McCullum as Test coach, and Stephen Fleming, his former teammate, was appointed as the new Test coach.

Fleming will not be available for the Pakistan series starting on August 19; Marcus Trescothick will stand in as assistant coach.

England's next assignment is a three-Test series at home against Pakistan, followed by a series against South Africa in December when Fleming takes over.
