Gavit’s prize: An astonishing late spurt and a dream fulfilled

Dilip Gavit won gold in the men's 100m T47 at the 2026 Commonwealth Games with a Games record of 10.71s, the first Indian male to win a para athletics gold at the CWG.

Gavit was coached by Vaijnath Kale, who took him from his tribal village near Nashik after Gavit lost his right arm at age five due to a fall.

India achieved a 1-2 finish with Mohammed Basil winning silver (10.83s) in the same event.
