Taslima Nasreen pushes for UCC implementation in India: ‘Much needed in any civilised country’

Taslima Nasreen called for implementation of the Uniform Civil Code in India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan, saying it is 'much needed in any civilised country'.

Nasreen said she has been fighting for the UCC for 40 years and that it is essential to remove discrimination against women.

The West Bengal government has constituted a high-level committee to examine a draft Uniform Civil Code for the state.

Nasreen noted that in Bangladesh, Hindu women do not have equal rights and cannot inherit their father's property, making a UCC necessary.

Nasreen returned to Kolkata after nearly 19 years; she felt insulted when poet Joy Goswami was forced off stage during her felicitation ceremony.
