IMD warns of heavy rain in Maharashtra; schools closed in some districts

IMD issued heavy rain alerts for Maharashtra, with Orange Alert for Raigad, Nashik ghat, and Pune ghat, and Yellow Alert for Thane, Mumbai, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Nandurbar, Chandrapur, Wardha, and ghats of Kolhapur and Satara.

Schools closed in Nashik district in Malegaon, Nandgaon, Baglan, Igatpuri, Kalwan, Trimbakeshwar, Peth and Surgana talukas; all educational institutions closed in Nandurbar district after red alert.

Mumbai expected cloudy skies with moderate to heavy rainfall, wind speeds 40-50 kmph, temperatures 26-28°C.

Wind speeds may reach 50-60 kmph in North Konkan and up to 50 kmph in Marathwada; rough sea conditions and cautionary signal hoisted at ports from Dahanu to Shrivardhan.

Authorities advised avoiding unnecessary travel, especially through hilly stretches, due to risk of waterlogging, landslides, and travel disruptions.
