A vehicle ploughed into a crowd near a Pride event in Berlin on Saturday night, killing one person and injuring 16 others, with eight seriously wounded.
Berlin police identified the suspect as Abdul B, 21, a known Islamist, who is slim, about 1.9 metres tall with black hair, last seen wearing a black hooded top and white trousers.
The attack occurred at around 10 pm near the Brandenburg Gate, close to the Christopher Street Day LGBTQ Pride celebration, which was subsequently cancelled.
German interior minister Alexander Dobrindt called the attack 'cowardly, despicable' and vowed to bring those responsible to justice.
Police warned the suspect may be armed and dangerous, and the manhunt has been widened across Berlin; it is unclear if the perpetrator acted alone.
