The Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) directed Karnataka to release 3,500 cusecs of water per day to Tamil Nadu for 15 days, a setback for Karnataka which had sought to reduce the quantum. Tamil Nadu had demanded 7,000 cusecs daily.
Background
The Cauvery water dispute is a long-standing inter-state river water sharing conflict between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, with the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal (CWDT) and the Supreme Court issuing multiple awards. The CWMA was established to implement the final award.

CWMA ordered Karnataka to release 3,500 cusecs of water daily to Tamil Nadu for 15 days.
Tamil Nadu had sought 7,000 cusecs per day for 15 days.
Karnataka had argued for a lower release due to insufficient rainfall.
