The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) announced a 50% reservation for ex-Agniveers in constable (general duty) and rifleman posts in CAPFs and Assam Rifles. This was stated in a written reply to Lok Sabha on July 22, 2026, highlighting the government's efforts to integrate Agniveers into central security forces after their service.
Background
The Agnipath scheme, launched in 2022, recruits soldiers for four years, with a provision for retention of 25% for regular service. The government has been creating avenues for ex-Agniveers in various sectors, including CAPFs. Earlier, in December 2025, the quota for ex-Agniveers in BSF constable posts was increased from 10% to 50%.
