The Ministry of Home Affairs has designated Court Room No. 26 of the City Civil and Sessions Court in Mumbai as Maharashtra's new special NIA court. This replaces the 2019 notification and aims to ensure faster and more efficient trials of all NIA-investigated scheduled offences across the state.
Background
Special courts are constituted by the MHA under the NIA Act, 2008, to ensure expeditious trial of offences investigated by the NIA, including terrorism and other scheduled offences. The previous notification for a special NIA court in Maharashtra was issued on December 12, 2019.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) designated Court Room No. 26 of the City Civil and Sessions Court in Mumbai as the new special NIA court for Maharashtra.
The court will exclusively hear all scheduled offences investigated by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) across the state under the NIA Act, 2008.
The decision was taken after consultation with the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court and the Maharashtra government, as mandated under the NIA Act.
The notification was issued by the Counter Terrorism and Counter Radicalisation (CTCR) division of the MHA.
The notification is dated July 11, 2026, and supersedes the earlier notification of December 12, 2019.
The jurisdiction of the special court extends across the entire state of Maharashtra.
The designation aims to facilitate efficient handling of NIA cases and provide a uniform judicial forum within the state.
