Union Minister Nitin Gadkari informed Rajya Sabha that E20 petrol may require replacement of rubber parts in BS-III vehicles. This is significant as India pushes for higher ethanol blending to reduce emissions and oil imports.
Background
India aims to achieve 20% ethanol blending in petrol (E20) by 2025-26. BS-III vehicles were manufactured between 2005 and 2016. Studies were conducted by IOCL, IIP, SIAM, and ARAI to assess E20 fuel impact.
