Isro unveils first Nisar S-Band radar dataset, shares sample images
in5points
Isro released the first batch of S-Band radar data from the Nasa-Isro Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), or Nisar mission, via the Bhoonidhi portal.
Sample images cover locations including Tamil Nadu (Nagapattinam), Antarctica, Assam (Brahmaputra basin), Idaho, Greenland, and Indonesia.
The radar's applications include tracking coastal wetlands, mapping irrigation patterns, and monitoring ice movement.
Nisar is the first spaceborne radar with both L-band and S-band frequency bands on a single satellite.
Using a 12-metre reflector antenna and SweepSAR, Nisar captures a 240km-wide swath at high resolution and revisits the same location every 12 days.
