Tejaswin Shankar scripts history, becomes first Indian athlete to win a medal in decathlon at Commonwealth Games

Tejaswin Shankar won bronze in the men's decathlon at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, becoming the first Indian athlete to medal in the event.

He scored 7,976 points over the 10-discipline competition, finishing third behind Grenada's Lindon Victor (8,096, gold) and Canada's Damian Warner (8,036, silver).

Shankar set a personal best in the long jump with 7.82 metres and threw 40.44 metres in the discus, another personal best.

In the final event, the 1500m, he clocked 4:36.19 to secure 704 points and clinch the bronze.

Shankar previously won bronze in the men's high jump at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games.
