Monsoon likely to intensify in UP from Monday: IMD

IMD forecast widespread heavy to very heavy rainfall across Uttar Pradesh from Monday, July 27, as monsoon activity intensifies.

Monsoon trough shift northward and strengthening low-pressure area over northwestern Bay of Bengal drive increased monsoon inflow.

Monsoon activity was subdued until Sunday; rainfall deficit in UP widened to 21% (East UP 28%, West UP 8%).

Atul Kumar Singh, senior scientist at Regional Meteorological Centre, Lucknow, attributed intensification to meteorological changes.

IMD warned of thunderstorms with lightning at isolated places over East Uttar Pradesh.
