Korean professor who got his students to write a research paper for his daughter's admission to a top dental school sent to jail for 3.6 years

Lee M, a former professor at Sungkyunkwan University's School of Pharmacy, sentenced to 3.6 years in jail for coercing students to ghostwrite research papers for his daughter.

In 2012, Lee made his lab students conduct animal experiments and prepare reports for his high school daughter, who won an award that helped her gain admission to a university's 'Science Talent Special Admissions' program.

In 2016, Lee instructed his students to perform stress-induced animal experiments for his daughter's undergraduate research program, fabricating data when results contradicted the hypothesis.

The daughter's ghostwritten papers were submitted in 2018 for admission to Seoul National University's Dental School, leading to a 2019 education ministry investigation.
