Persistent mouth ulcers that do not heal within two to three weeks may indicate pre-cancerous lesions or early oral cancer and require biopsy.

Hoarseness lasting beyond an infection, especially in smokers or tobacco users, should be evaluated via laryngoscopy for early larynx or throat cancer.

A lump in the neck is a late sign, often corresponding to Stage 3 or later when cancer has spread to lymph nodes.
