Ulsoor Lake comes alive with pelicans
in5points
Ulsoor Lake in Bengaluru has been restored through desilting, removal of invasive weeds, and improved water quality.
Nearly 50 Spot-billed Pelicans are now visiting the lake, diving for fish and indicating ecosystem recovery.
Pelicans replaced scavenger birds as the water quality improved, according to Colonel Uday Sankeshwar (Retd.), who contributed to restoration.
The Madras Sappers have a long association with Ulsoor Lake, which once supplied water to the military.
Other waterbirds like kingfishers and egrets also thrive at the lake, reflecting its improved health.
