Ludhiana: ₹2L misappropriated; accountant booked

Dugri police booked accountant Pardeep Singh for misappropriating over ₹2 lakh entrusted to him by Surinder Singh and Rajwant Kaur for income tax payment.

The couple handed cash to Pardeep Singh for filing ITRs for financial years 2022-23, 2023-24 and 2024-25, but the tax was never deposited.

The fraud came to light when the couple received a notice from the income tax department for non-payment of taxes.

Pardeep Singh also allegedly failed to deposit penalties imposed by the Income Tax Department, leading to further notices.

Police registered the FIR under Sections 316(2) (criminal breach of trust) and 318(2) (cheating) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
