Indonesian man planted 11,000 trees, transforming barren hills

In 1996, Sadiman began planting trees in Wonogiri, Central Java, after noticing deforestation and disappearing streams.

He planted 11,000 banyan and ficus trees, which have extensive root systems that help retain water.
