3 killed after train hits car carrying school kids at manned level crossing in WB

  1. Train No. 53054 Nimtita–Katwa Passenger hit a Tata Sumo school van at Level Crossing Gate No. 24A/2 in Katwa–Azimganj section near Berhampore, West Bengal.

  2. Three people, including two children from Royal Academy School, were killed; five others were injured.

  3. The accident occurred around 6:41am on July 17, 2026, at a manned level crossing between Karnasubarna and Gobindopur railway stations in Murshidabad district.

  4. The school van entered the crossing after the gate was opened following the passage of Train No. 13431, but was struck by the incoming Nimtita–Katwa Passenger train.

  5. Railway authorities, RPF, GRP, and local civil administration responded; an inquiry has been initiated.
