Rains batter Palghar district; one killed, additional NDRF help sought; schools shut

Heavy overnight rains inundated Palghar district, Maharashtra, leaving many stranded and triggering rescue operations.

One person was found dead in a nullah; identity not yet established, said District Collector Indu Rani Jakhar.

All educational institutions in Palghar district were ordered closed on Thursday as a precaution.

The district administration requested an additional National Disaster Response Force team from the state government; one team is already deployed.

Dahanu and Talasari talukas were worst affected, with extensive flooding and hundreds marooned; roads submerged in Masvan and Saravali disrupted traffic.
