State govt scraps mandatory bond service for doctors

Maharashtra government scraps compulsory one-year MBBS bond service for doctors graduating from government, municipal, and aided medical colleges.

The decision is effective immediately via a government resolution issued on July 23, 2026, by the Medical Education and Drugs Department.

Students already serving their bond must complete the remaining period; those eligible but not yet posted are exempt.

Students who paid a penalty to avoid bond service will not receive a refund; the online bond portal will be closed.

The change aims to address long wait times for postings that prevented graduates from pursuing postgraduate medical courses.
