Ex-village head, wife missing after floodwaters sweep away car in Chhattisgarh

Former village head Devnarayan Patel and his wife Parvati Patel went missing after their car was swept away by a stream in Sarangarh-Bilaigarh district, Chhattisgarh.

The incident occurred around 7pm on the Sarangarh-Baramkela road when the couple attempted to cross a submerged low-lying causeway.

Witnesses reported the car lost control and was swept downstream within seconds.

A search operation involving police, locals, and divers from Raigarh district failed to locate the vehicle or the couple as of late Sunday evening.

Persistent rainfall caused rivers and streams to overflow, and authorities urged people to avoid crossing flooded roads due to strong currents.
