MADC begins next phase of India’s first offshore airport

The Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) has invited bids to appoint a consultant for a detailed techno-economic feasibility study and bid process management for the proposed greenfield offshore international airport at Kore in Palghar district.

The airport would be India's first offshore airport and is intended to meet Mumbai region's aviation needs after existing airports reach capacity by 2050.

Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis stated that the airport will be directly linked to Mumbai via a 4.75-km extension of the Uttan-Virar Sea Link, and will also have connectors to the Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway and the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway (NH 48).

The airport will have direct connectivity with the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC), and the planned site is near Vadhavan.

Bids for the consultant will be opened on September 3.
