Trump administration considers $100,000 Green Card bond for some applicants abroad: Report

The Trump administration is considering requiring some overseas green card applicants to deposit a bond of up to $100,000 to ensure self-sufficiency.

The proposal, being developed by the State Department, would apply primarily to immigrant visa applicants who seek to permanently settle in the United States.

The bond amount may vary based on individual circumstances and could be introduced as a pilot program in a small number of countries.

Applicants would likely receive the bond back only after becoming U.S. citizens, a process that typically takes at least five years.

State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott stated that President Trump wants immigrants to be financially self-sufficient.
