Messi's MLS All-Star game status uncertain

Lionel Messi will skip the 2026 MLS All-Star game on 29 July in Charlotte due to his participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final.

MLS and the MLS Players Association agreed that players exiting the World Cup would have individual rest timelines determined by their clubs.

Messi and Argentina teammate Rodrigo de Paul were excused from the All-Star game under that agreement.

Messi played in Argentina's 1-0 loss to Spain in the FIFA World Cup final on 19 July 2026.
