Mumbai man loses ₹1.64 crore to scammers, mistakes real cops for fake ones during rescue

A 75-year-old Mumbai man lost ₹1.64 crore to scammers impersonating police between June 8 and July 25, 2026.

When real Mumbai police arrived at his Grant Road home on July 25, he refused entry and called the fraudsters via WhatsApp video call.

The scammers convinced him the real police were imposters.

Police brought society members and another cyber fraud victim to persuade him.

South Cyber police booked unknown accused under BNS and are tracing the banking trail.
