Mississippi man uncovers more than 200 Civil War cannonballs buried beneath his property after 160 years

A Mississippi resident named Bobby Boyette uncovered more than 200 Civil War-era cannonballs buried on his property during excavation.

The cannonballs, buried for over 160 years, are believed to date back to the American Civil War (1861-1865).

Explosive ordnance disposal experts were called to examine the find because some cannonballs may still contain explosive material.

Historians believe the cannonballs may have been buried during military activity, possibly left behind as part of gunpowder supplies.

The discovery is one of Mississippi's largest Civil War ordnance finds in recent years.
