London population falls as residents flee high costs

ONS data shows London's population fell by 0.3% (about 27,000 residents) to 9,122,909.

It is the first annual decline outside the pandemic era since 1988.

London was the only English region to record a population drop.

Rising housing costs, record domestic migration, stricter UK visa rules, and hybrid working are driving the exodus.
