17-year-old Ellie Bowen of Wales beats a flesh-eating disease, set to participate in Commonwealth Games 2026

Ellie Bowen, 17, of Wales, lost her right leg to amputation after being diagnosed with necrotising fasciitis at 13 months old.

She is a seated shot-put athlete and the youngest member of the Welsh team at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Bowen said sports showed her she can compete like anyone else, describing her participation as a dream since age four or five.

Her mother said they nearly lost Ellie at 13 months but she is now doing amazing, and her father built a special bicycle for her.
