Crooks befriend Bengaluru woman on FB, claim to send costly gifts from UK & cheat her of Rs 1.7 crore

A 52-year-old Bengaluru woman lost Rs 1.7 crore after being befriended on Facebook by a man claiming to be Sahil Juggal, an Indian working in the UK.

The fraudster promised to send expensive gifts including gold, diamonds, and jewellery, and sent fake photos of a parcel and courier receipts.

A second fraudster posing as customs officer Ravi Sharma demanded customs charges and clearance fees to release the parcel in Delhi.

The victim transferred Rs 40 lakh via RTGS and later handed over cash in person to multiple individuals, identified by a Rs 10 note serial number.

The cybercrime police are investigating the case, noting the use of hawala channels and in-person cash collections.
