PMC ropes in self-help groups to speed up voter roll revision

  1. Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) deploys women from self-help groups (SHGs) to assist Booth Level Officers (BLOs) in door-to-door voter verification.

  2. The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls has achieved only about 50% progress since June 20 launch.

  3. SHG members cover nine assembly constituencies: Shivajinagar, Parvati, Hadapsar, Kasba Peth, Kothrud, Khadakwasla, Wadgaonsheri, Pune Cantonment and Pune city.

  4. SHG members receive an honorarium of ₹50 per application, disbursed after verification by the Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO).

  5. Door-to-door verification runs from June 30 to August 8; Maharashtra has 9.78 crore registered voters as of June 30, 2026.
