Karnataka high court directs state to inform contractors of petitions on tunnel road project

Karnataka High Court directed the state to inform future contractors about petitions challenging the 16 km Twin Tunnel Road project.

The court stated that no equity should be created and any contract is subject to petition outcomes.

The project is estimated to cost Rs 19,000 crore and is challenged for lack of lawful appraisal of economic viability, social impact, and constitutional validity.

Petitioners argue the project is car-centric and discriminatory, favoring an affluent minority.

The court also extended the earlier order against felling trees in Lalbagh and posted the case to August 20.
