Haryana urea consumption exceeds 21% of kharif target despite govt push to cut fertiliser use

Haryana's urea consumption reached 7.17 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) from April 1 to July 19 in kharif 2026, exceeding the projected requirement of 5.93 LMT by nearly 21%.

Haryana ranked fifth in India for urea requirement, while Punjab (11.93 LMT) ranked second after Uttar Pradesh.

Urea accounted for over 83% of Haryana's total fertiliser consumption, with sales of other nutrients like DAP, MOP, and NPK below their projected requirements.

Haryana contributed about 5.3% of India's fertiliser sales despite representing only 3.9% of the national requirement.

The Haryana government claims it saved 1,26,938 metric tonnes of fertilisers in the last rabi season (October 8, 2025 – April 17, 2026) through monitoring and policy interventions, and is considering per-acre entitlement limits for urea and DAP.
