US Summer heat leaves multiple hikers dehydrated in New York's Adirondacks

New York Forest Rangers responded to multiple dehydration emergencies in the Adirondacks in June, with rescues in Essex, Hamilton, and Washington counties between June 8 and 13.

On June 13, a 32-year-old hiker from Connecticut was airlifted by New York State Police Aviation from Gray Peak after vomiting and being unable to move; Keene EMS took over care at Marcy Field.

On June 8, a 52-year-old hiker from Potsdam was rescued on the Lillian Brook Trail in Dix Mountain Wilderness; a paramedic administered IV fluids before rangers carried the hiker to Elk Lake trailhead.

Rangers reminded hikers to carry enough water, pack high-protein and high-calorie food, and follow hiking safety guidelines due to the hot weather.
