SC upholds life term for serial killer Chandrakant Jha

in5points
The Supreme Court dismissed serial killer Chandrakant Jha's plea against his life sentence without remission.
Jha was convicted of murdering Anil Mandal, Upender, and Dilip in Delhi between 2006 and 2007, dumping their decapitated bodies near Tihar Jail.
The Delhi High Court in 2016 commuted Jha's death sentence to life imprisonment without remission due to lack of eyewitnesses.
The Supreme Court cited the Constitution Bench ruling in Union of India vs V Sriharan (2016) to reject Jha's challenge to the sentence's constitutionality.
The court noted that the constitutional powers of pardon and clemency with the President and Governor remain unaffected.
