Underside of Andheri’s Gokhale Bridge to become sports and recreation hub

The BMC proposed transforming the unused space beneath the Gokhale Bridge in Andheri East-Vile Parle East into a recreation hub with sports and community amenities.
The project spans from the Western Express Highway junction near N S Phadke Marg in Andheri East to a plot adjoining the railway line.
Planned facilities include pickleball courts, a cricket turf, football facilities, a skating park, a half-basketball court, an open gym, a children's play area, and a botanical garden near Hubtown.
The initiative aims to address the shortage of open spaces in Vile Parle and provide affordable recreation for middle-class neighborhoods and nearby slum settlements.
The project also intends to improve safety by reclaiming neglected under-bridge space that has attracted anti-social activities like drug use.
