Punjab HC reserves judgement on Punjab govt, state power corporation's pleas seeking stay on DA release order
The Punjab and Haryana High Court reserved judgement on pleas by the Punjab government and Punjab State Power Corporation (PSPCL) seeking a stay on a previous order to release Dearness Allowance (DA).
A single-judge bench had on 8 April ordered the state to release DA estimated at ₹14,191 crore, on par with rates for All India Services officers, by 30 June.
The state argued the order imposes an immediate financial burden and disrupts fiscal planning, proposing a phase-wise plan until 2028 that was rejected.
PSPCL argued it operates under independent rules and its employees cannot claim parity with state government employees.
Acting chief justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra and Justice Rohit Kapoor reserved the order after around a dozen hearings.
