Uttarakhand: Worker killed in concrete lining collapse inside Silkyara tunnel

A 21-year-old construction worker from Jharkhand was killed in a concrete shotcrete lining collapse inside the Silkyara-Barkot tunnel in Uttarkashi district.

The collapse occurred around 2am, about 900 metres from the Barkot side of the 4.5-km tunnel.

Uttarkashi District Magistrate Prashant Arya confirmed the incident and said no other workers were trapped.

The National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) has launched a probe to determine the cause of the structural failure.

The Silkyara tunnel was the site of a 2023 collapse that trapped 41 workers for 17 days.
