UN chief Antonio Guterres begins landmark Syria visit after years of conflict

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres arrived in Syria for a three-day visit, the first by a UN chief since 2009.

The visit aims to reaffirm UN support for Syria's political transition after President Ahmed al-Sharaa's administration overthrew Bashar al-Assad.

Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani welcomed Guterres at Damascus International Airport, per state news agency SANA.
