Market concentration could hit consumers, jobs & MSMEs, Raichur MP cautions Centre

Raichur MP G Kumar Naik flagged increasing market concentration in telecom and cement sectors to the Centre.

Naik called for periodic scrutiny by the Competition Commission of India (CCI) to protect consumers, jobs, and MSMEs.

India's telecom market narrowed from over 13 operators to four major players, and cement sector saw similar consolidation.

The government acknowledged CCI's telecom market study in 2020-21 but no comparable study was done for cement.

Naik cited BSNL Employees' Union data that Reliance Jio's entry contributed to over 75,000 job losses by 2020.
