CBI arrests 2 in Suvendu Adhikari aide murder case, probes political links
CBI arrested Sagar Sonkar and Sahib Sonkar in connection with the murder of Chandranath Rath, aide to West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari.
Sagar Sonkar is accused of arranging the contract and providing money for the murder, and had contacts with a rival political party's office via landline calls.
Rath was shot dead on Jessore Road near Madhyamgram in North 24 Parganas district on May 6, two days after BJP's victory in the 2026 Bengal Assembly election.
The CBI has also arrested six alleged shooters and three middlemen in the case; one accused remains at large.
The murder is suspected to have political links, with the conspiracy allegedly in motion since December 2025.
