Bengaluru woman questions ₹20 lakh wedding costs

Meenal Goel, a chartered accountant and former KPMG and Deloitte professional, argued that spending ₹20 lakh on a wedding creates a long-term financial burden.

She broke down a typical ₹20 lakh wedding budget: ₹6 lakh on food, ₹5 lakh on venue, ₹3 lakh on decorations, ₹2 lakh each on photography, entertainment and miscellaneous expenses.

Goel stated that within 48 hours the venue, food, decorations are gone, but the financial impact stays with the couple's savings and future goals.

She suggested redirecting wedding funds toward a home down payment, emergency fund, long-term investments, children's education, or financial security.

Goel advised couples to celebrate within their means and start married life with financial peace, not pressure.
