Odisha govt enhances financial powers of urban local bodies

Odisha government revised delegation of financial powers for Urban Local Bodies, Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited, and Rourkela Smart City Limited.

Financial limit for municipal corporation commissioners for payment of works, purchase, and office contingent bills increased to ₹1 crore from ₹50 lakh (Bhubaneswar) and ₹15 lakh (other corporations).

Financial limit for administrative approval of works and projects raised from ₹2 crore to ₹3 crore for municipal corporations.

For municipalities and Notified Area Councils, payment authority of executive officers doubled from ₹10 lakh to ₹20 lakh.

Reform aims to strengthen local governance by granting greater financial autonomy and reducing procedural delays.
