Derrick Callella of Hawthorne, California, pled guilty to two counts of Harassment Using a Telecommunication Device for sending a fake ransom note in the Nancy Guthrie case.

Callella called and texted Nancy Guthrie's daughter Annie Guthrie and her husband Tommaso Cioni on Feb. 4, 2026, asking about a bitcoin transfer and harassing the family.

Sentencing is scheduled for September 10, with reports suggesting he may receive up to 10 years probation, but no official decision has been made.

Self-styled investigator Jonathan Lee Riches questioned why Callella might get probation, sparking speculation that he may have aided law enforcement, though this is unconfirmed.
