Poor BCom, BA results in distance education flagged

University of Mumbai's Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE) reported first-year BCom pass rate of 17.97% (457 of 2,543) and BA pass rate of 20.68% (460 of 2,224).

Senate members Pradeep Sawant, Dhanraj Kohchade, and Rajan Kolambekar raised concerns, citing issues like late study material, improper evaluation, and delay in ATKT exams.

University official clarified that 'unsuccessful' includes students failing one subject, not necessarily all, and noted BCom pass rate improved ~5 percentage points year-over-year.

Students are allowed admission to the next academic year despite results, minimizing academic loss.
